What is Sky Pool?
Sky Pool, the long-waited transparent swimming pool, is being inaugurated on May 19, 2021 in London. The inauguration was held over because of the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. The transparent swimming pool will stretch between two skyscrapers in the Embassy Gardens, at a 35-metres height. Embassy Gardens consist of a luxury residential complex overlooking the east-bank of the Thames. It won’t be a structure for everyone, of course. In fact, swimming in the Sky Pool is going to be a unique experience. It will seem to fly above the people passing along the street below, which is not a usual sensation. The project has been carried on by EcoWorld Ballymore, leader society within urban regeneration, architects from Arup Associates, engineers from Eckersley O’Callaghan and designers from Reynolds. Reynolds is a company skilled in materials for aquariums, and provided glass panels 20cm thick for the project.
The swimming pool is 25 meters long, 14 meters wide and 3 meters deep. It will able to contain up to 375 tons of water. The entire project was thought to prevent disasters in case of strong wind or soft shaking of the ground. Actually, the experience of swimming in this pool is reserved to the residents of the Embassy Gardens apartments, whose minimum cost is one million pounds. Nevertheless, it is always possible to admire the pool from the street.
